Why Does My Walmart Price Catcher Login Fail Continuously

This post has been updated to include Walmart hacks because in May of 2017, Walmart discontinued the Savings Catcher program.  The Savings Catcher allowed people to snap a picture of their Walmart receipt using the Walmart app.  Then at the end of the week, Walmart would compare their prices to those listed in the ads of local competitors.  If they found a lower price for an item you purchased, they would issue you a "refund."  The refund was given in the form of a Walmart gift card (and was super convenient, because then you could effortlessly price match!)

Because the Savings Catcher is no longer in existence, this post has been updated to share 10 Walmart hacks that are not widely known.

1.  You can still price match at Walmart.

Even though Walmart discontinued the Savings Catcher program, they will still price match both in store and online (Walmart.com).  To price match, the item must be exactly the same; same model, same size, same color, etc.  There are a few stipulations, like when shopping, they will only price match one item per customer per day and they will only price match certain retailers. You can find all the details about their price matching policies on Walmart.com here.

By the way, Walmart will also price match contact lens prices, so if you're shopping online for contacts, don't forget about Walmart!

2.  Grocery Pickup Will Change Your Life

So maybe that's a slight exageration, but I've been using Walmart Grocery Pickup for years and it is the best thing ever (if you shop at Walmart and haven't tried it, you are missing out!).

When I first started using grocery pickup, I was super nervous about buying produce.  Like most people, I feel like I'm pretty picky when it comes to selecting produce.  When using Walmart grocery pick up, I have NEVER (not once) had them give me produce that was poor quality.  In fact, the produce is probably better quality than the stuff I select for myself (thank you Walmart pickers, keep up the outstanding work!)

So a brief overview of Walmart grocery pick up is:

  1.  Download the Walmart app, make an account if you don't have one, and then select "Shop Pickup & Delivery."  (Step 1 in below picture!)
  2.  Select your "Pickup From" location and "Reserve a Time."  I would do this simply because inventory can vary at different stores and you don't want to get done shopping, only to change the store location and find that the different store doesn't have some of your items. Additionally, based on your location the time slots for reservations may not fit your schedule.  (It sucks making a giant order and then finding out there's no openings for pickup for 5 days – not common, but happens on occasion!  If this does happen and you have the luxury of having multiple Walmarts close by, you can always change to a different store to see if they have better reservations available.) (Step 2 in below picture)
  3. Shop your heart out from the convenience of your own home!  Check your cupboards as you're shopping to see what you need.  It's so awesome. I must admit that my biggest problem with online grocery shopping is that I end up with way more or way less of something than I needed.  For example, how much flour do I typically buy, is it a 5 lb bag or a 10 lb bag?
  4. When you're done, you can check out on the app.  Simply click the shopping cart icon in the lower right corner of the screen to start the check out process.  Just so you know, there is a $35 minimum.  (Step 3 and 4 in picture below)
  5. Forgot something?  One of my favorite features of Walmart grocery pickup is that you have until 2 am the day you are going to pick up groceries to continue adding items to your order. Simply shop the Walmart app, in the grocery pickup section.  Add items to your cart and then checkout.  It will ask if you want to add the items to your current order.

Just as an FYI, I save a lot of money with Grocery Pickup because it reduces impulse buys.  When you aren't walking around the grocery store hungry, it's easier to not mindlessly add items to your cart that you don't really need.

3.  Emeals

So if you love Walmart grocery pickup, then I have something that you should try!  Emeals is a meal planning program that will pair with your Walmart account.  I'm going to write a more detailed post on this soon, but until then let me give you a quick rundown.

Emeals is a very affordable meal planning app.  Every week you login to their app and scan through the meals they have listed for the week under various categories. They have a ton of meals you choose from, things like kid friendly, paleo, gluten free, slow cooker, keto, clean eating (there's an option for everyone!)

Every week the app will show you 5 meals under each category.  You can choose any meals you want (you don't have to choose all of them from the same category).  I just scan until I find 5 pictures that look delicious.

After you've selected all your meals, the app will give you a list of the items you will need to make them.  You can remove items you already have in your pantry from the list.

And then here's where the magic happens…

At that point, Emeals will give you the option to login to your Walmart account and will make shopping for the items you need ridiculously easy.  Example: You need 8 oz of sour cream – here are all the containers of sour cream at Walmart, which one do you want?

At the end of this process, you can pay for your Walmart groceries on the Emeals app (which is synced to your Walmart account) or you can go into the Walmart app and add any other items you need to your grocery pickup order.

It's literally the easiest way I've found to meal plan.  It breaks up the monotony of eating the same 5 meals over and over again (we have a pretty consistent routine of pasta, chicken nuggets, quesadillas or burgers at our house).

I have been an Emeals customer for several months and recommend it to everyone!  (When I talk to friends, I almost always share this with them, that's how much I love it!)

4.  Always Check the Clearance Section (even on the App)

Walmart stores have a Clearance section and sometimes there's hidden gems.  I don't know if it's just my Walmart, but the clearance section is usually crammed full and is not always well organized, but don't let that discourage you.  If you haven't dug through the Walmart clearance, then you're missing out on a great Walmart hack!

For those of you who have a Cricut, I've seen both machines and tools at significant discounts in the clearance section.

You can also find a Clearance section on the Walmart app, for those of you who prefer Grocery Pickup.

5.  Shop in the Morning

If you can shop in the morning, you could score some great deals!  The mornings are when you might find the previous day's bakery items and rotisserie chickens at significantly discounted prices. (I typically find the rotisserie chickens at 1/2 price!)

The mornings are a great time to check out the Clearance section as well, because inventory is routinely added at night.

6.  Use Ibotta to Get Cash Back

You can use apps like Ibotta to earn money back for certain items that you purchase at Walmart.

To get started simply download the Ibotta app.  You then can go through the current offers available on the app for Walmart.  You must add items to your list before you buy them.  After shopping, take a picture of your receipt and you'll earn money!  The savings you get from "coupons" at Ibotta work in addition to paper coupons!

7.  Walmart Credit Card

If you do a lot of shopping at Walmart, you might consider getting a Capital One Walmart Rewards Card, which will allow you to earn 5% cash back on all Walmart.com purchases, 2% back on Walmart stores and on fuel purchases, and 1% cash back on all other purchases.  There's no annual fee for signing up.

8.  Walmart+

Walmart has just rolled out their new program, Walmart+.  The big features of this program are free 2 day shipping on all Walmart.com orders, free grocery delivery (sometimes same day), and the option to use Scan and Go when shopping in store.

9.  If you belong to Walmart+, you can use Scan and Go to pay for your groceries.

If you're a Sam's Club shopper, they've had the Scan and Go feature on their app for years.  Walmart has now added a Scan and Go feature to their app!

With Scan and Go, you can scan items as you add them to your cart.  When you're done shopping, you'll pay for your groceries on the app and will get a QR code.
You'll show the QR code at a self check-out kiosk on the way out of the store and you're good to go!

Just as an FYI, for items that must be weighed, you'll have to weigh them at the self checkout after shopping and with alcohol sales, you'll have to show your ID to an associate.

10.  Walmart Pay

Walmart Pay is a touchfree way you can checkout.  Simply enter your payment information into the Walmart app (you can also add giftcards).  When you're checking out, open Walmart Pay and a QR code will be displayed.  Scan the code on the register and be on your way!

Conclusions:

I am a loyal Walmart shopper, because they generally have the best everyday prices (sorry to sound like a commercial).  If you are trying to save money, here's a post that shares super easy things you do reduce the cost of your grocery bill.
